ILAC files for bankruptcy protection

International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC), one of Canada’s largest private language schools, filed for bankruptcy protection on September 18 and immediately ceased operations, cancelling all classes and programming.

The school said it had faced mounting financial pressure over the past three years as significant regulatory changes reshaped the international education sector, and that despite efforts to secure sufficient resources to continue operating, it no longer had the liquidity to do so.

ILAC, which had operated for more than 30 years, said it is working with regulators to support affected students and minimize the impact on employees and partners.
