Hurry Up and Wait for the French Translation? Potential delays in the release of judgments due to the Charter of the French Language

Jason Dolman of Fishman Flanz Meland Paquin cautions that unresolved questions over section 10 of Quebec’s Charter of the French Language, which requires English judgments of public interest or terminating proceedings to be accompanied “immediately” by a French version, risk delaying time-sensitive Commercial Division decisions in insolvency and cross-border cases, potentially discouraging parties from litigating in Quebec.
