Senior Specialist, Debt Solutions

Doane Grant Thornton is looking for a Senior Specialist, Debt Solutions. The position is based in Waterloo, Ontario, with possibilities for alternate locations in Hamilton and London.

As a Senior Specialist, Debt Solutions your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the firm in the development and growth of its existing insolvency practice in your community and surrounding areas 

  • Knowledge and ability to assist in the training of colleagues 

  • Seek opportunities for efficiencies, or streamlining of processes to ensure better debtor and stakeholder experiences 

  • Showing an awareness of our Be, Grow, Think attributes through actions, behaviors and approach with the team and stakeholders 

  • Responding promptly to initial contact from debtors by telephone, email, etc. 

  • Conducting initial interviews and meetings with debtors, including doing the sign ups 

  • Timely follow up on potential debtors 

  • Input debtor documentation and workbook into firm software and prepare sign up documents 

  • Review files for comparison and appropriateness 

  • Ensure full compliance with the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and directives in the delivery of service 

  • Building positive working relationships with debtors, referral sources, the Office of Superintendent (OSB) and all other stakeholders 

  • Assess clients’ budget plans and financial goals 

  • Deliver an excellent and empathetic experience for the clients 

  • Communicating with clients, creditors and other third parties 

  • Monitor the status and progress of debt relief options and filings 

  • Review applications and inputting data into our computer system 

  • Other specialised requirements based on your role within the Debt Solutions team

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in the Insolvency industry dealing directly with debtors, creditors, and industry stakeholders 

  • College diploma in Business Administration or a related field preferred 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to relate with clients and liaise with team members 

  • Ability to be an articulate and versatile communicator, both written and verbal 

  • High computer literacy including the ability to learn new programs and previous experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) 

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills 

  • Ability to work independently
