The Honorable Barbara Romaine retired from the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta on July 4, 2025, after nearly 28 years serving as a Justice of the Court. While a Justice, Ms Romaine was often assigned to commercial insolvency and complex commercial matters at the Court. Ms Romaine, together with Professor Janis Sarra, co-edited the 2012 to 2018 volumes of the Annual Review of Insolvency Law, and has been involved in groups including the International Insolvency Institute, the US National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, INSOL International, the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, the International Exchange of Experience on Insolvency Law, and the Bowen Group. In her retirement, Ms Romaine is interested in pursuing opportunities in arbitration, mediation and early neutral evaluation.
