Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto bankrupt after losing charitable status
Cancer-support organization ceased operations days before filing, listing $53,202 of assets against $190,525 of liabilities

Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto filed an assignment in bankruptcy on August 24, 2026, after the cancer-support organization ceased operations due to the loss of its charitable status.
The Toronto organization, which was named after comedian Gilda Radner, who died from ovarian cancer in 1989, provided emotional and social support to people affected by cancer and their families, including group therapy and other support programming. It operated for nearly 25 years before announcing that it had ceased operations effective August 21, since the CRA had revoked the organization’s charitable status on July 11 for failing to file an annual return.
The organization reported just $53,202 of assets against $190,525 of liabilities, leaving an estimated deficiency of approximately $137,323. Almost the entire creditor pool is unsecured, with $190,524 of unsecured claims and only a nominal $1 secured claim listed in the filing.
The Statement of Affairs lists 16 creditors. The largest scheduled unsecured claim is approximately $67,867 owed to Camp Erin, followed by approximately $31,007 to Cancer Support Community, $27,873 to Osprey Valley Resorts Inc., $21,330 to Camp Maple Leaf and $13,136 to Manitou Camp. The filing also lists TD Canada Trust with a nominal $1 secured claim.
