Trevor Courtis and Meena Alnajar of McCarthy Tétrault share that the Alberta Court recently confirmed that Canadian courts can appoint a receiver in cross-border insolvency recognition proceedings to run a centralized national claims process, allowing foreign liquidators to efficiently pursue coordinated recovery actions against alleged “net winners” of Ponzi schemes across multiple provinces while avoiding fragmented litigation and jurisdictional disputes.
