Agenda

8:00 to 9:00 Registration and Light Breakfast

9:00 to 9:30 Panel 1: On the Ground: Alberta's Economy and the Rise of Borrower Stress

The volume of stressed and distressed files across Alberta is at levels not seen in years. Lenders, advisors, and insolvency professionals are actively managing refinancings, restructurings, and workouts across nearly every sector. This panel takes stock of what the current cycle is teaching us and what lenders should be doing differently as a result.

Panelists will discuss the importance of staying close to borrowers and why lenders who are in front of their clients are catching problems that others are missing entirely. The conversation will cover the case for early negotiated resolutions and what experience across different markets is showing about recovery outcomes. Panelists will also address the challenge of underwriting and covenant monitoring when trade uncertainty makes forward projections unreliable. And at a time when senior lenders need alternative capital markets most, the private credit market in Canada has become thin and fragmented, limiting the exit options available and leaving mainstream lenders with fewer tools to manage their way out of complex files.

9:30 to 10:00 Networking Break

10:00 to 10:20 Fireside Chat: Collateral Damage: What Lenders Get Wrong About Asset Realization

Lenders often have a number in their head for what their collateral is worth. Liquidators and real estate brokers often have a very different one. In this candid conversation, two practitioners who work at the sharp end of asset realization share what they actually see when assets go to market in Alberta. From equipment and inventory to land and buildings, each asset class has its own surprises, its own timing challenges, and its own gap between expectation and reality. Panelists will share what lenders consistently underestimate, what the current market for distressed assets looks like across both sectors, and how to approach asset realization more effectively when it matters most.

10:20 to 10:50 Panel 2: Extending, Enforcing, and Everything in Between

From chartered banks to private lenders, the professionals managing distressed portfolios in Alberta are navigating one of the most complex credit environments in recent memory. This panel brings together lenders from across the capital stack to debate the hardest calls they are making right now. Which sectors are deteriorating fastest? How are fraud and quasi-fraud showing up and how are lenders catching it earlier? What are the triggers that move a file from workout to enforcement? And when private credit is in the capital stack, does it help or complicate recovery? Panelists will share the frameworks and instincts guiding their decisions as the credit cycle evolves.

10:50 to 11:20 Networking Break

11:20 to 11:50 Panel 3: From the File: Real Scenarios, Real Solutions

In this rapid-fire session, a lawyer and a licensed insolvency trustee work through real scenarios drawn from recent Alberta practice. Each situation is one a lender in this room could face tomorrow: a borrower in default, a contested receivership, an RVO under challenge, a workout gone sideways. For each situation, panelists break down the decisions made, the outcomes achieved, and the practical lessons lenders should take away.

11:50 to 12:00: Open Q&A: All Panelists

12:00: Program concludes
